Throughout this entire week, I'll be putting up detailed posts I've deemed "strategy posts" that deal with the way I trade, the way I think, and some of my more intricate ways of deducing companies to buy and sell. Because it's Monday, tonight's blog post is going to be a basic overview of almost everything I'll be covering throughout this entire week. What better way to do such an overview than with my favorite elementary school style "5 W's & 1 H" method!
Who do I trade? Trade with? Trade for? - I trade all sorts of companies from the mass conglomerate of different market sectors and industries. Over the summer, I traded almost every single day with the crew of brilliant minds on Twitter, but I also have two or three of my good friends who are getting into the art of trading that I enjoy talking stocks with. I am currently managing my brother's extremely tiny account through E*Trade (soon will be through TOS) and have him invested in a couple of Technology companies I feel will do well in the next year.
What do I trade? - I trade predominantly Micro and Small Cap tickers, but have traded every category of capitalization (Micro to Mega).
When do I trade? - During the summer, I started my trading day at approximately 8:00am and traded until about 4:30pm (with a lunch break from 12:00pm to 2:00pm). Because of classes and my busy lifestyle outside of trading, I am currently swing trading and holding positions over a longer period of time because I only have 1.5 hours in front of a monitor during the week - the half hour is at home, the hour is at my school's library.
Where do I trade? - As stated above, I am doing most of my active trading these days in my school's library. In the summer, however, I was at my desk overlooking my backyard with my two laptops. This coming summer, I am morphing my attic into an incredibly functional office, complete with a TV and a multi-monitor system that I'll be taking with me to college.
Why do I trade? - I trade because I have found my calling in the concentration of finance. I am an addict, I am full of passion when I trade, and I am always eager to learn new methods of trading and new strategies to better myself and my trading as well. My end goal is to start my own brokerage (you heard correctly, I did in fact say brokerage), but in the next 2-4 years I will be working vigorously to begin my own capital investment LLC. My ambition and drive have kept me going through some tough times thus far, and I am ready for the next wave of challenges to begin!
How do I trade? Start trading? - For those of you who are new to reading my material, I am a fully discretionary technical trader that combines swing trading and momentum trading methods in order to pick winners. I am beginning to understand the fundamental trading style a lot better and hope to integrate this into my technical trading style in the next year. I am beginning to trade extremely strategically, as you will see in tomorrow evening's post. I began investing in the stock market in 2006 and watched my gains from mid-2006 get completely wiped out at the beginning of the recession. This pissed me off, so I decided to begin trading, learned the basics of technical analysis, and didn't look back. If it's gotten me this far in such a short amount of time, I cannot wait to see what the future holds for me.
There you have it Financial Rock Stars, my 5 W's & 1 H self-interview. Tomorrow night, I'll be sharing my position size information with all of you, as well as some Micro/Small Cap setups that I like so far this week. Good luck tomorrow, and enjoy the rest of your night!
