A student at Louisiana State University, Philip is completing a degree in Economics with a concentration in empirical analysis and minor in Political Science. He has had the opportunity to learn under independent professional traders. This experience, combined with educational background has led to a focus on global macro, primarily currency markets as well as interest rates and commodities.
Zealand hales from the Great city of Boston where he has been known to exhibit not 1 iota of care or concern for either the New England Patriots or the Boston Red Sox. After graduating from Bentley College with a BS in Finance, Zealand has risen through the ranks of a well known Boston boutique wealth management firm where he currently heads research and asset allocation. Zealand's core competency lies in finding undervalued assets and secular themes on a global basis. Using an amalgamation of fundamental, quantitative, technical and even sometimes cycle theory analysis, Zealand has consistently been able to beat the markets on a risk adjusted basis.
At its August 10th meeting, the FOMC acknowledged what the data have shown since early summer. After slower than expected Q2 GDP and at best, anemic labor market recovery, the Fed was forced to change tack. While the change in language is not decidedly bearish, it reveals that the committee does not think the U.S. is on solid footing.

Horrendous economic and storage numbers can't beat the heat.
Compared to other commodities, natural gas has held up well but the Economy is not cooperating.
As industrial unrest continues in China, political economy continues to play a key role. The United States hopes to see an increase in demand of US commodities from China, and many speculate a worldwide increase in the value of agricultural commodities as China’s workers are empowered. Industrial unrest is not limited to China as workers of neighbouring developing countries seek more rights. This will affect the developing world’s consumptive power.
